The Unseen War: Part 4

We looked last month at the war that is going on continually around us and the choice we have to fight or not fight this war.  I want to be very clear that this war will go on regardless of whether we choose to fight but as we saw last month some of the victims of this war are our family and friends.  If we choose not to draw up our battle gear and stand up against the enemy then many of them may spend an eternity in Hell.  Remember that Satan will always use our own weakness against us. Rest assured Satan will always be working against us

Just to be clear Satan can in NO WAY take away our salvation once we are sealed by the Holy Spirit at the very moment of salvation but he sure can destroy our witness.  This in turn not only encourages others to not want Christ but in many ways will cause them to run further away.  Never forget the most important and visible witness we have is how we live our lives every minute of every day.  People are watching us and waiting for us to mess up so they can justify their unbelief.  Have you ever heard the statement, ‘Christians do not act any better than what non-Christians do’?  I pray every day that this is never said about my behavior.  Now how do we prevent that from occurring?

Last month we looked at the first 2 weapons we have in this battle, the belt of Truth and the breastplate of Righteousness. Now that we have these let's look at Ephesians chapter 6 again starting in verse 15,

Ephesians 6:15-16 (KJV)
15  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

The gospel of peace. You might say what peace has to do with war?  Great question and here is the answer. Peace has the reference of health, prosperity, wellbeing, security and freedom from strife whether internal or external (Eccles 3:8, Isaiah 45:7, Isaiah 26:12, Job 22:21).  This is what we all want in our lives.  Have you ever slept well when your anxiety level is really high?  How about when a loved one or close friend dies or we are diagnosed with cancer?  That is when the world can see the peace that surpasses all understanding.  The peace we have at the moment of salvation can and will be very attractive to any nonbelievers especially during times of a crisis in our life.  I have been asked many times how you can have peace when your life is in chaos.  The answer is simple CHRIST and CHRIST alone.  It is only His peace that can hold up under fire.  This is the Gospel in its purest form and something that all those around us can see easily and have a great desire to have.

The shield of faith.  Wouldn’t we all like to have a big shield around us at all times to keep us from harm?  The answer is that of course we would.  How do we get that?  The world has the misunderstanding that that would mean we never have any trouble or difficulties in our lives and even some teach that.  Remember that God does and will use trials in our lives to grow our faith thereby increasing the effectiveness of our shield.  We need our shield to be as big and strong as possible and we only get that through our faith and that is only accomplished through trials and our growing through them.  I have personally found out that cancer is one of the greatest builders of our faith.  It will identify each and every one of our weaknesses which can only be overcome with our faith.  Cancer is not just a physical battle but a very big battle in the spiritual world as well  It has opened up a whole new world for me to be able to have an impact on people I would never have been able to before.

We have looked at the first 4 components of the armor of God and I pray that each one will have a greater understanding of them and see how they will help us in the unseen war.  Next month we will endeavor to look at the next and final defensive part of the armor and that is the helmet of Salvation.  Remember that it is always the goal of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to have us grow and be complete in Him and I pray that is our goal also.  Until next month may we experience the peace of God that surpasses all understanding

In His Service,
Randy
