Oh No, Not another one!

Another bombing, another mass shooting, another hurricane, another (you fill in the blank) _______.   We hear so much about these things almost every day now that many of us have had the thought of this title.  How often have we heard this saying and even more importantly thought this ourselves?  It becomes easier to do all the time as we seem to be overcome with tragedy every day on a local national or worldly level.  This brings up 2 very important questions.

  1. Why?
  2. What can we do about it?

This month we will focus on the first of these questions so we have a better understanding of what is really going on in our world today.  The easy way out is to just blame it on sin and say that it will happen again as we are all sinners.  While this is true let us not be deceived into believing that this is a one size fits all answer.  We must look into scripture to find out the answer is much more than that.

James 4:1-3 (NASB)
1  What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members?
2  You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.
3  You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

Genesis 6:5-7 (NASB)
5  Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6  The LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
7  The LORD said, "I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them."

These are just 2 of the multitude of verses in scripture that shows that we ALL have evil hearts and evil desires and we will have them until the day we draw our last breath.  Let there be no misunderstanding here.  Scripture is very clear that all of us are evil without the saving Grace of Christ.  So knowing that we are all evil it seems to me that it is only a matter of time until more of this evil occurs in the world.  Let us never lose this truth that we are all capable of all kinds of evil.

Now the really big discussion is what we can do about it or more specifically what are we instructed to do about it.  Should we just say that is the way it is and move on or are we commanded to do something?  Is this evil something that we can see and feel or is it also in the spiritual world?

Ephesians 6:10-20 (NASB)
10  Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.
11  Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
12  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
13  Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
16  in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17  And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18  With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,
19  and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel,
20  for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Again we look at the war that is waging in the spiritual world.  We must remember that our battle with this evil is being fought on 2 fronts.  We can very well see the tangible one but it is the spiritual one that we as children of God are either neglecting or choosing not to fight.  As all of the believers in Christ MUST fully understand that we cannot fight this battle without ALL of us coming together and crying out to the Lord first of all for forgiveness of our own sins.  Secondly we must cry out for all other believers to join the battle with our all of weapons.  WE NEED REVIVAL in all our lands.  How do we get this revival to occur?  WE MUST CRY OUT TO GOD as individuals and as the fellowship of believers corporately cry out.  As the Lord told Solomon

2 Chronicles 7:13-15 (NASB)
13  "If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people,
14  and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
15  "Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place.

Simple is it not.  We must trust in the Lord and cry out to him on a continual basis.  We must summon the troops

Next month we will talk further about what we can do about this worsening evil in our world

In His Service
