Why do some fear and have anxiety of the dark? Why do some experience the same feeling when blindfolded? There’s something inherent about darkness that scares us. It’s not that we fear the dark itself — we experience fear and anxiety because of what the darkness hides. Fear of the dark is based on one's imagination and some believe using the same imagination is the solution to tackling those fears.
This runs parallel to those who find their happiness living in darkness, which is opposite to how we should be living spiritually. Living in darkness is being lost, sinning, and running from God. The people who are lost do not think that they are lost. They believe that the direction that they are chasing will lead them to happiness. The direction that they chase often leads into sin and disappointment, sometimes causing them to become more lost. “And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed.” John 3:19-20 This does not have to happen when you use the Holy Spirit as your lantern. “When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12 In and through God, we will find all we need. It will not be temporary but everlasting.
Fear, anxiety, and deception. A few of the enemy’s most popular weapons that he uses against us and to divide us. We will look past a child who is afraid of the dark but the challenge is to come lead the souls out of darkness who are afraid of the Light. All your fears and anxiety, give them to God. Replace those fearful thoughts and that pursuit of false happiness with Gods words of truth.
Walk in the light, beautiful light,
Come where the dewdrops of mercy shine bright.
Shine all around us by day and by night,
Jesus is the light of the world;
If the gospel be hid, it's hid from the lost,
My Jesus is waiting to look past your faults.
Arise and shine, your light has come,
I know that He is the only light of this world.
